They resided in Fort Meade for a few years, then moved to Waycross, Georgia, then to Jacksonville, then to the west coast of Florida, then to Ft. Pierce, where they lived for twenty years. Mrs. Hilliard had gone to Waycross, Ga. in August 1924 for medical treatment and was staying with Mrs. Eliza Waldron when she passed away on Sept 3, 1924. Thomas Hilliard died on November 9, 1924. He is buried at the Kettle Creek Cemetery in Ware County, Georgia.
